Women In Defense (WID), a National Security Organization, an affiliate of the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA), provides its members with opportunities for professional development and networking, cultivating the advancement of women leaders in government and industry professions. Headquartered in Arlington, Virginia, WID consists of eight chapters: Chesapeake Bay, Capital, Iowa/Illinois, Monmouth, Picatinny, Rocky Mountain, San Diego, and Tennessee Valley.

WID encourages women to pursue careers related to the national security interests of the United States and to provide development opportunities to women who are already working in national security fields. WID’s Southern Maryland chapter, the Chesapeake Bay Chapter (WIDCBC), is based out of Lexington Park, Maryland and is supported by professional women from the Defense Contracting community, U.S. Military, and Federal, State, and Local Government agencies.

To specifically promote the professional enhancement of females throughout the national security industry, WIDCBC provides annual scholarships to local candidates demonstrating significant leadership potential that can lead to contributions in the science, engineering, and business disciplines. These scholarship initiatives are supported through fundraising efforts and corporate and private donations. WIDCBC was established in 2002 and operates under a modified version of WID National by-laws.
