Our Scholarship Program

The Chesapeake Bay Chapter (CBC) of Women in Defense (WID) will award two $1,000 scholarships in May 2006 as part of its Regional Scholarship Program. Supported through CBCWID fundraising efforts and corporate and private donations, the scholarship program is intended to encourage and support women who pursue careers related to the national security and defense interests of the United States. It also provides development opportunities to those individuals who are already working in national security and defense fields.

Scholarship Program

Scholarship awards will be made to women based on their academic achievement, participation in defense and national security activities, field of study, work experience, statements of objectives, and recommendations. The scholarship winners will each receive a $1,000 check payable jointly to an accredited college or university and the recipient.

To be eligible, a candidate must be female and either a graduating high school, or undergraduate student who has applied to or is attending an accredited college or university on either a full- or part-time basis. Candidates should have a minimum grade point average of 3.0, reside in the tri-county area (Charles, Calvert, or St. Mary’s), and be a U.S. citizen. To apply, candidates must submit a completed CBC WID Regional Scholarship Application Form with a letter that explains how the individual demonstrates leadership potential in science, engineering, and business disciplines. Applicants are required to submit two letters of recommendation and should be pursuing studies in engineering, computer science, mathematics, business, law, international relations, homeland security, political science, operations research, or economics. Other disciplines will be considered if the applicant can successfully demonstrate relevance to a career in the areas of national security/defense.

To receive an application or for additional information, please contact Rose Frederick with the Chesapeake Bay Chapter of Women In Defense.

Candidates should submit their applications by regular mail to the CBC WID Regional Scholarship Committee, P.O. Box 172, Lexington Park, MD 20653. The application deadline is April 28, 2006. Award recipients will be notified by mail after the award determinations are made.
