About WID

Women in Defense (WID), A National Security Organization, is a professional organization for individuals whose careers are related to the defense of the United States and national security.

WID provides its members with opportunities for professional development, a forum for exchanging ideas and experiences, and a vehicle for expanding your network. It also provides opportunities for members to meet and interact with distinguished officials from government and industry in open discussions on key issues.

WID offers a variety of programs for its members and members of the defense and national security communities, featuring key speakers from defense and national security organizations. WID meetings and educational seminars promote open discussion of crucial issues with key decision-makers and provide a great opportunity to network with industry and government peers. Past speakers have included the Assistant Secretary of Defense, Senators, Congressional Representatives, the Secretary of the Air Force, Flag and General Officers, and Industry CEOs.

Through its HORIZONS Foundation WID supports candidates pursuing careers in national defense by providing mentoring activities and scholarships.

Women In Defense is a non-profit 501(c)(6) corporation that was established in 1985. The organizational structure consists of a National Board of Directors, with four elected officers (President, Secretary, Treasurer, and the Managing Director of the HORIZONS Foundation) and appointed Directors of Programs, Communications, and Membership. Regional Offices are located nationwide.

Additionally, WID has been an affiliate of the American Defense Preparedness Association (ADPA) since 1995. ADPA merged with the National Security Industrial Association (NSIA) on March 1, 1997 and named the National Defense Industrial Association (NDIA) on October 1, 1997. NDIA is a non-profit, educational membership association devoted to the security of the United States. This partnership increases networking opportunities, provides professional contacts for WID members and expands the scope and quality of professional development programs.
